Naturopathic Treatments

Zen Health Integrated is a naturopathic clinic focused on mind body medicine.
We integrate natural treatments for mental-emotional health, digestive conditions and chronic pain.

Mood, Stress and Trauma

Psychosomatic (mind body) medicine bridges the gap between psyche (mind) and soma (body). Rather than treating mind and body as separate fields, it views mind and emotions as closely interconnected with the physical body, with each part exerting an influence on the whole person. Symptoms of mental emotional trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chronic stress, insomnia or digestive problems such as irritable bowel syndrome that have been unresponsive to treatment can often indicate an underlying unaddressed mind body component. Mind body healing utilizes both physical and mindfulness based therapies in a top down (mind – body) and bottom up (body – mind) integrated treatment approach.

Digestion and Detoxification

Digestive complaints make up a large percentage of visits to naturopathic doctors. Did you know that poor digestive and detoxification function could be causing your skin problems or chronic headaches? Digestive problems do not solely manifest through symptoms in the digestive tract.

Skin problems, allergies, poor sleep, fatigue, headaches, weight gain, autoimmune diseases are commonly related to digestive dysfunction. Understanding this connection and treating the underlying digestive dysfunction is fundamental to healing these conditions.

Chronic Pain

79% of Canadians have used a form of complementary or alternative medicine with 1 in 5 suffering from chronic pain. Most patients who walk through our door have found their pain unresponsive to standard medical treatment or the side effects have become too uncomfortable to live with.

Chronic pain is a multifaceted condition which requires an integrated approach. In addition to our pain management therapies, we address lesser known chronic pain factors which include underlying mental emotional trauma (psychosomatic causes), nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in sex and stress hormones.

Dr. Zhi Oon, ND

The Practice

My naturopathic practice focuses on digestive dysfunction (irritable bowel syndrome, small intestine bacterial overgrowth) and immune related conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome and chronic infections. Trying to find a solution to one’s symptoms can seem like a daunting task and often times a confusing maze. This is where I serve as a guide by helping patients make sense of their symptoms, identifying obstacles to them getting better and connecting the dots between their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Bio

Growing up I was intrigued by the connection the mind had with the body. At 14, I picked up a book The Power of the Subconscious Mind and was completely fascinated by the idea that we could reprogram a part of ourselves to positively impact our life. This interest would lead to my forage into the world of healing when I was later introduced to Qi Gong – a mind body healing practice based on Chinese medical theory. This drew me towards the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine, eventually earning a degree in acupuncture. Through my exposure to Western medicine from a young age, it made sense to combine Eastern and Western knowledge. I discovered the perfect combination in naturopathic medicine and went on to complete my naturopathic medical degree at Bastyr University.

Dr Oon is board certified with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia. He is also a member of the British Columbia Naturopathic Association and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
